AREAS OF INVESTMENT

Through the Forward with Faith Campaign, The Hartford Bishops’ Foundation distributes grants within four critical areas of investment and for COVID relief.

AREAS OF INVESTMENT

1. Vibrant Parishes

For the Church in the Archdiocese of Hartford to be vibrant, our parishes must be vibrant. The Campaign places great emphasis on providing resources to our parishes to nurture the next generation of Catholics.

The Campaign will provide funds to:

  • Restore, expand, and unify the design and appearance of our Mother Church, the Cathedral of Saint Joseph.
  • Fortify the services and capabilities of Malta House of Care by establishing a stationary clinic on the Cathedral of Saint Joseph campus.
  • A Minimum of 50% of the funds raised in cash through the parish campaigns are disbursed for their own local needs.

Grants Distributed to Date:   $12,559,749

AREAS OF INVESTMENT

2. Champions in Service to Others

The Campaign will strengthen the ability of Catholic social service providers to effectively respond to our neediest communities.

Some of the signature initiatives include:

  • Establishing a Learning and Life Skills program for Catholic Charities that will provide health and wellness services to 45 individuals at any given time.
  • Supporting Catholic Charities’ mental health and substance abuse clinics, family centers, and home and center-based services with additional staff, enhanced services, new programs and facility upgrades so they may serve and empower thousands of additional people annually.

Grants Distributed to Date: $1,011,119

AREAS OF INVESTMENT

3. Educating to Reignite the Faith

Campaign funds help to provide exceptional educational opportunities to all students, volunteers, and parish leaders to reignite their faith, including:

  • Professional and Ministerial Development: These competitive grants will fund creative, innovative, and transformational projects within the elementary and secondary schools, youth ministry, and parish faith formation programs of the Archdiocese.
  • Education of the Clergy: Funds will support workshops and other educational programs to equip our priests with the resources, skills, and expertise needed to effectively lead and pastor a modern parish.
  • Integrating STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Math) and other relevant programs not currently offered in all schools.
  • Light of Christ Awards: extraordinary educators and administrators in our parish elementary and archdiocesan secondary schools will be honored through an annual Light of Christ Awards program based on nomination and specific criteria. They will receive a monetary award, as well as archdiocesan recognition.

Grants Distributed to Date: $ 1,274,350.00

AREAS OF INVESTMENT

4. Innovation & Emerging Opportunities

Support community partnerships and innovative programs that create long-lasting change, strengthen our schools and parishes, and meet the evolving needs of the greater community.

Funding will support groundbreaking ideas designed to:

  • Enhance the operational and business models of Archdiocesan parishes and schools.
  • Promote evangelization efforts and innovative programs to bolster parish attendance and school enrollment.
  • Meet the evolving needs of Catholics and non-Catholics alike within the broader community.

“This grant has helped us offset the significant cost of maintaining a clean and safe environment. Beginning last summer our principal, faculty and staff have been working hard to provide a safe environment for in-person learning for our students. This grant helps us to meet the pandemic protocols and allows us to move forward with the work of educating our students.”

– Rev. Anthony J. Smith, Administrator, St. Mary Magdalen Church and School, Oakville

“We believe, that now more than ever, the Church needs to be investing in our young people and providing them with the tools to actively live their faith. Our hope is that our program will provide an opportunity for teens to not only gain valuable life skills, but also to realize that these skills are critical to live a fruitful Catholic life. We are excited that, with support from The Hartford Bishops’ Foundation, we will offer this innovative program to our young people during an incredibly challenging time.”

— Jennifer O’Neill, Director of Confirmation, Youth Ministry and Adult Formation,

St. John Fisher Church, Marlborough

“The Hartford Bishops’ Foundation’s ‘Innovation Grant’ has enabled our parish to establish a digital hub with online faith formation programs, resources and activities for families of all ages to access from home. More importantly, our ability to communicate with families via text messaging and email newsletters will help drive church attendance and enrollment in our faith formation program. We are very thankful for the Foundation’s support which has helped us move forward with redesigning faith formation at St. Thomas.”

- Wanda J. Mascola, Director of Faith Formation, St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Oxford

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Archbishop Blair and The Hartford Bishops’ Foundation. Our staff and students will reap invaluable benefits as a result of the generous grant we received for our technology. In these difficult times, the quintessentially Catholic education we promise to our students is possible because of you. God bless you!”

– Christa Chodkowski, Principal, Catholic Academy of Waterbury
